Basil Antonas

About

Artist and Printmaker

Based in Perth, Western Australia, Basil has exhibited in solo exhibitions and group shows locally and internationally.

Basil paints with expression and movement - catalysed by exploring spontaneous and refined tactile forms and the use of colour to capture a sense of place or to create landscapes unknown. Using oils and acrylics across canvas and board, his works hold fine textural details which give them depth and tangibility.

He also produces limited-edition prints which are inspired by his painting process and studio life. In a small but positive gesture to support the environment Basil aims for a sustainable art practice. He etches, shaves and sculpts used oil and acrylic paint materials to compose unique abstracts - elevating excess and detritus to art. These dynamic landscapes are then photographed and printed locally on sustainably sourced archival cotton rag paper.

Basil's works hang across Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Italy. His piece
'Rawness' was awarded best Painting Open Theme at the 2017 Cossack Art Awards, Western Australia's richest regional acquisitive art award.
